In an effort to help develop the future leaders of our communities and state, Pearl River Valley Electric participates with other rural electric cooperatives in Mississippi in a statewide Youth Leadership Program.
The program is designed to provide participants with an opportunity to learn about electric power associations, how and why cooperatives operate, and how electricity is distributed, in addition to sharpening their leadership skills.
Each fall, Pearl River Valley looks for two area high school juniors to participate in the program.

Two local high school juniors, Maddie Hylender of Purvis High School and Samantha Cardenas of Sumrall High School are the winners this year. In early February, they will join 80 other students from around the state in Jackson for the annual Mississippi Youth Leadership Workshop, where they met with legislators and take part in leadership training sessions. In June 2025, both Maddie and Samantha will attended the Youth Tour of Washington, D.C.
